The Culture Talk Law Section will serve as a resource to explain the impact that law has on our interpretation of culture. Law and culture have a reciprocal impact: law can greatly affect culture and culture can impact how laws are created. Society functions and thrives based off cultural norms that stimulate the creation of laws and policies. The law section will provide historical timelines, documents, and handbooks for educational purposes. Through the law section, information can be found about the history of law, legal systems, important legal documents, legal institutions, history of human and civil rights, international law, and international court cases.
With the presence of social movements advocating for equality and justice, law plays an increasingly vital role in the way individuals interact with each other. Protests create conversations around the intersection between culture and law, furthering civic engagement and fostering dialogue among citizens. Social media has allowed initiatives to reach wider audiences and new legislative proposals to gain public recognition. These modern tools have enabled individuals to sign petitions, call for reform, and demand change through local representatives in an efficient manner. Rule of law has become a defining characteristic of functioning democracies across the world.
